Surfing in Varberg

With its fantastic location right beside the water, Varberg offers a varied range of water activities. Among other things, the seaside town is noted as Northern Europe’s best windsurfing water.

Varberg is the northernmost area with sandy beaches without an archipelago, the waters are shallow and the wind is favourable. Surfers gather here from far and near. If you want to try something new, wind- and kite surfing courses are held during the summer season.

Whether you want to surf or watch others surf, there are several areas just outside Varberg to choose from. One of these is Apelviken, situated about 2 km south of the town centre. It is a long, shallow bay with long sandy beaches that are popular for both surfers and sun-worshippers. Other good surfing areas include Björkäng, 13 km south of the town, and Träslövsläge, 7 km south.
There are two surf shops in Varberg town centre; `Fahlens surfshop´ and the largest surf shop in the Nordic region, `Surfers´. Surfers has opened a newly built surf centre in Apelviken where, among other things, you can rent equipment or have a coffee and relax in the cafeteria.

Of course the wind is very popular among all the surfer´s. Sometimes the evenings are calm and then you can choose to glide through the water in a slow and smooth way. Quite nice.
